Using The External Vga Port

I want to use an external monitor and the external display VGA port. If I close the lid of the computer it shuts off. I would like to close the lid andstill have the computer on with an external monitor. Will this happen automatically when I plug in the external monitor or do I need to change a setting on the computer. If I need to change a setting what do I do?

It is possible to keep your Acer Aspire 5580 laptop even if the lid is closed. You just need to modify some settings in the Control Panel. For your convenience, I provided the video tutorials below.
