I would expect there would be no problems, as I have seen it run on many older laptops, and as Windows 7 is far less memory hungry than Vista, and your laptop either came with XP or Vista, and will take up to 2gb ram.
For your peace of minfd I would run the Microsoft Windows 7 UPGRADE ADVISOR tool first

Also there is a bios for Vista , if yours is on XP, and has not got the Vista Bios update, I would suggest you instal the bios update- however if the Microsoft update advisor says it is o.k then you can proceed without worrying about the bios update. If you are on Vista, then you would most likely have that bios update anyway.
Further, if you find missing drivers, then use Vista drivers, as they usually work OK i nWindows 7, sometimes you may need to instal in compatability mode. If you find you need to, click start, click help and support, then just type compatability mode in the box at the top and follow the tips
