Why Does It Say My Apple Id Has Been Disabled?

I get an error message on my phone that says my apple ID has been disabled.  I'd like to know why and how to fix this.

It usually means that someone has tried to sign into your account and has gotten the information wrong enough times that they disabled it. Usually it is only for a few hours, but if it lasts longer you would need to call iTunes customer service.
