Do I need to use iTunes for putting new music on my iPod?

Is there any way to just mount my iPod as a drive using USB as opposed to having to use iTunes to put new music on my iPod?

Yes, If it is an actual ipod. If it is an mp3 player (not made by apple) you don't, you can just open the files and drag and drop your music.
