Phono Hook Up

Trying to hook up turntable..am hooked up to phono Jack and ground in back of receiver..

This is from page 32 of the user guide:

The PHONO jack of the unit is compatible with an MM cartridge. To connect a turntable with a low-output MC cartridge, use a boosting transformer.

If the output of your turntable is around 5 millivolts that would be your problem as phonos need around 750 millivolts. An amplifier designed for hi-fi cartridges will always need a pre-amp.
