Help With A Download From Yahoo Pages

I have been having an extremely frustrating time today & yesterday trying to watch videos from yahoo webpages. Every time I try to watch a video of any kind from any yahoo webpage it tells me I need to install adobe flash player. I have done this over and over and over again and the videos I want to watch will not play. Please help me to overcome this issue. Thank you.

I know it sounds like a cop-out, but it's true.  There could be any number of things happening here.  One thing you should know is that it's not Yahoo's fault, most likely.

First off, I would suggest going directly to the source and install it from there.  On the right-hand side of the page opened by this link, you'll see a heading of "Readers And Players."  Underneath that is the download you want, it's on the bottom left of the four available.  It has the text "Get Adobe Flash Player." Click on that, download the .exe and install it.  If you don't want to do that, I've got some other suggestions to try.

Odds are is that the culprit is something involving your browser.  One possibility is that your browser is actually blocking the install and it never completes, IE especially.  It will show a message at the top of the browser window asking you if you would like to complete the install.  That message can be hard to see because it really doesn't pull your attention to it and it just sits there.

If you do happen to be an IE (Internet Explorer) user, I would suggest trying a different browser and see if you have any better luck.  Try Firefox or Chrome.  Of course, being the quasi-militant nerd that I am, I would say you should be using one of these browsers anyway, but I digress.

If the browser ideas don't work for you...another possibility is that your browser is downloading the install package, but doesn't kick off the install process.  If you've gotten messages from the Adobe install, then we know this is not the problem.  If you haven't, then go to your downloads folder and manually start the install.  The file you'll need to click on would either have this title, 'install_flashplayer10_chrd_aih.exe' or something very close to it.

Yet another possiblity is the version of Java currently installed on your computer.  You can go here, download and then install Java.  After that's done and you still can't watch your videos, we'll know the problem isn't Java-related.

Now, if you have gotten this far and it STILL doesn't work, go back up to the Firefox and Chrome links!! ;)

Nerds need love too...
