Email Is Unaccessable, Possibility Of Someone Posing As Windows Live Email?

Hi! My name is Thedchana Markandu. I'm encountering a problem with my hotmail email. Yesterday, I received an email that said it would close my account upon 3 days of receiving the message and it had the windows live insignia, copyright and seemed like a legitimate email from windows live staff. I thought it was real and so i gave the requested information (the user id, password, and date of birth). After that I was busy for the rest of the day and when I came home that evening, my contacts from all accross the world received an email that is as follows: Hello,Please I need your assistance. I was robbed in London UK on transit to India for vacation they took away my wallet where my money and credit card, and other valuable things are. I need a favor from you as soon as you receive this e-mail, I will like you to assist me with a loan urgently. I will need the sum of $2,750 to sort-out my hotel bills. I will appreciate whatever you can afford to help me with, I will  pay you back as soon as I return, I’m counting on you on this, Kindly let me know if you can be of help so I can send you my information where to send the money to me through Western Union.I have spoken to the embassy here but they are not responding to the issue  effectively, I will appreciate whatever you can afford to assist me, I’ll Refund the money back to you as soon as i return, let me know if you can be of any help. I don't have a phone where i can be reached. I look forward to hearing from you later today.Your reply will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.Markandu What's even more suspicious is that we were on a vacation recently to India and we had the same transit in London as stated in the above email. Now I'm unable to access my account (the person may have changed my password). I suspect that it is the same person I gave my ID to. Is there a possibility that the email wasn't sent from support staff and windows live? Are there any other actions that I can take? Please reply as soon as possible and thank you for your time. The email attached is my son's email and if I'm unable to attend he will read your reply.   ---THEDCHANA M.---

Unfortunately, I tried everything you said but when I give the security answer it isn't accepting. I've tried this multiple times and since I didn't give an alternative email I can't retreive any information.

This is a scam email sent by a spammer.  This is not legitimate.  The first thing you should do is reset your password.  You can reset your password here. It will ask for your Windows Live ID (which is your hotmail email address).  You will also have to enter characters to verify it is a person requesting access and not a program.  After answering your security answer, you will have access to create a new password.  To prevent your account from being hacked in the future, make it a strong password.  This means including lowercase letters, uppercase letters, numbers, and special characters.  It should also at least be 8 characters.

If you don't know the answer to your secret question nor have an alternate email address to send the password to, you need to fill out a validation form found here.

, you got hacked, this happened to my sister a wile back. you can make anything look legit, but under no circumstances should you give you password to anyone! if windows wants your info, its saved in there database. learn from this and change you password. ( also tell everyone to not open the mysterious email from you.) it could contain malware. you might be able to change your password if you remember the security question you gave when you signed up for hotmail. contact windows live to see what you can do.
