Lights Up But Doesn't Do Anything Just Hums Suggestions? Thx

Cabrio washer wtw8240yw,Machine turns on, the lid locks, but doesn't do anything, just hums, what do you think the problem is. My daughter had used the washer and put 2sets of sheets and pillowcases in, when I opened the lid they wre still wet and it looked like the sheets had been displaced
