Washer Overloaded; Slight Burning Smell; Stops Mid Cycle.

I think I may have overloaded the washer in my new house. I took half of the clothes out, drained, and restarted the wash. At first everything appeared fine; washer filled, agitation started. Then it stopped again mid cycle. There is a slight burning smell, not sure if it's a belt or motor. I tried leaving unplugged for a several minutes to reset the machine, but the cycle stopped yet again. I'm thinkint the best thing is to let the machine cool off completey and try again in the morning. Any suggestions?   Thanks!N a t e
