Lots Of Noises . . . Normal?

My fridge makes a lot of noises, more than my 15 year old fridge.  Is that normal?  I can hear it across my living room at times.  The compressor noise is definitely loud.  Even when the compressor is not running, there's a dull hum to it, which is still irritating.  For a fridge at this price, I would think it's very quiet.  We're thinking of returning it within the 30-day grace period.
