It does depend on yor machine.

Some, including Bosch have a drain hose next to the filter - use this a bowl at a time.

If no drain hose fitted, turn off machine, take out clothes and then bail out as much water as possible before trying filter.

before you try the filter, old towels on the floor, flat trays and a washing up bowl to empty them into.

Open filter a bit at a time until some water coms into your tray - close filter and empty tray.

Patiently repeat this process until no water pours out.

Remove filter and clean it.

Replace filter and say short prayer to the `god or saint of your choice and put washing back in for a spin cycle.
