Whirlpool Side-by-side Fridge Filter Does Not Eject

the filter eject is activated by a little door cover that is supposed to release a latch when you open it. must be very cheap and broke so filter is stuck forever. So ice cubes and drinking water will be a bath of bacteria. Pretty sad for an 18 month old fridge.
