There Is An Awful Smell In My Whirlpool Front Load Duet Washer. What Can Be Don

I have had my front load washer for a year and there is an awful smell inside the washing machine and it is now making our clothes and towels smell bad. I use the packets that you can put in the machine and run the cycle but that does not last long.
