Wrong Information Given By Westjet Employee Regarding The Rbc Westjet Mastercard

Dear Sirs: We were in Halifax, Nova Scotia last September approximately 25th when we were approached by a Westjet employee regarding the Mastercard. We had time to spare so we listened to what they had to say. Two women were giving the information, one more than the other and it sounded very interesting. So we filled out the form with the help of one of the ladies. What is wrong with the information is that she told us that for the first year the card is free and then the following year you pay $99.00 fee. She used her mother-in-law as an example and said she told her to get one and she could travel with a friend and it would cost her almost nothing for the trip. Then she stated that if she did not want to pay the $99.00 the following year then you just cut up your card and notify RBC that you are cancelling. She said it is a WIN WIN situation. Now in November this year I got charged $99.99 for an annual fee. I did not catch it at the time but looked back at the payment and noticed that I was charged the $99.00 only one month after getting the card. I called RBC and asked them why I had been charged and they said it is the annual fee which starts when you get the card and every year after that at the anniversary date. She also stated that the Westjet employee she not have told us that there was no annual fee for the first year. She was supposed to just give us the Westjet information about the promotion. Now we have told several members of my family in Nova Scotia about this deal, and one of my sisters did get it and I definitely told her there was no charge for the first year and if she does not want it the next year she can cancel.
