Important: If a driver cannot be found for a WD drive, it may be because most WD drives do not include drivers as they use a standard driver built into the Operating System (OS). If the driver is built into the OS or is already installed and the OS continues to look for a driver, the drive has most likely failed or been damaged and needs to be replaced. The WD external drives do not require additional drivers for Windows - they use those of the Operating System.

If the computer has troubles recognizing the device, you can update your current drivers. You can do this by opening Windows Update by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update. In the left pane, click Check for updates.

If there are any available updates, click the links to see more information about each update. On the Select the updates you want to install page, look for updates for your hardware devices, select the check box for each driver that you want to install, and then click OK. On the Windows Update page, click Install updates, but keep in mind that Administrator permission is required.
