Virgin Mobile Non Contract Phone Problems

I am having problems text messagening things to my friend through text messenger she lives in Tennessee and I live in Louisiana when she sends a picture to my text messenger I don't receive the picture message at all.When I send my friend sends a text message to me I don't receive the message at all. Can you let me what is the problem
