Need Help With My Virgin Lg Optimus Elite Which I Purchased Yesterday.

The screen goes black really quickly and when I bring it back up it is always locked and I have to swipe each time. Is there a way to keep the screen lit for a longer period of time when I am still using the phone? Also, when sending a text how can I put my name so the recipient can know who is sending the text? What is a front key? Should the front key LED always be on? How do I know when I receive a text? At this time it just says Me Thanks for your help, Cathie
