If you have backed up your contacts with Google or to your SD card, Go to settings in your phone, then select Manage Applications, select the All tab, Find contacts in the list, select that, and clear the data cache. Press back, and find contact storage in the list, select it, clear the data cache...restart your phone, it should solve the problem.
