I Just Purchased The Droid 2 And Am Receiving A Server Error Message On My Phone

I went to Verizon and was told that the error message is a google problem. I was told to purchase apps I have to apply for a google check out account. I am not a merchant and only want to occasionally buy fun apps for my phone.
