When Supposed To Change Struts On 1998 Camryxle? And How Much Costs?

purchased used from CHP widow - I love this car an want to conti. to maintain it. have lost my owner's manual and was told by mechanic that struts need to be changed at 70,000 mi and i now have 90,000 mi.Also, was quoted $600 for labor (!) and total of $1,000 to replace all 4 struts(!). live on ltd income and don't want to be ripped off!

The struts can wait (if the car is running reasonable like mine), for some more time comfortably.
