Undo the two screws on the back and then, using an electrical screwdriver for example, work your way round the join beyween the front and back elements to release the catches (there are eight in all) and the back will come away barely damaged. Taking out the LR44 cell and putting in a new one is now self-explanatory. The two halves come back together satisfactorily.
