Blue exhaust smoke always means an oil leak. Bad or worn valve seals is the most common cause of blue exhaust smoke. When the car sits overnight, some oil leaks past the seals and down into the combustion chamber. If it burns off after a few seconds, you should be okay for awhile.

On the other hand, if it blows out blue smoke every time you start it, then the seals are very worn and you will have to have them replaced in the near future. And if you have blue smoke all the time, you're driving a car that's on borrowed time. By that point, engine failure is a possibility.
