Make sure your phone is unlocked. Some phones need to be unlocked before they can be accessed by other devices.
Try a different USB cable. Some cables are only for charging, while others can also transfer data. Make sure you're using a cable that is capable of data transfer.
Connect your phone to a different USB port on the speaker system.
Restart both your phone and the speaker system.
Update the firmware on the speaker system. Sony may have released a firmware update that fixes the issue you're experiencing. You can check for updates on the Sony website.
If you've tried all of these things and your phone still isn't connecting, it's possible that the USB port on the speaker system is damaged. You'll need to contact Sony for support.
As for your second question, whether you can connect your relatively new phone to the USB port, it depends on the phone and the speaker system. Some older phones don't support USB mass storage mode, which is required for connecting to a speaker system. Newer phones should be able to connect, but you may need to enable USB mass storage mode in the phone's settings.
Here are some additional things to keep in mind:
The USB port on the speaker system may be for charging only. If this is the case, you won't be able to connect your phone to it.
The speaker system may not support the file format of the music files on your phone. If this is the case, you won't be able to play the music files on the speaker system.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
