Remaining Time Query

I have had my recorder for less than a year. I have deleted things off it as I was finished with them, but it still is saying that my "time remaining" is only 45 minutes. There must be something wrong because the packaging states "535 hrs of recording time". When I search through each of the folders (A, B, C, etc.) they are all empty. Please tell me how I can regain free recording time. I'd appreciate any help. I'm looking forward to suggestions! Thanks
