Error Code 16

Received my Singer 8500Q last Thursday. Gave it a test run for various stitches all was good. Sewed a couple hours and now message 16 comes up. I have turned it off then back on several times, it does not reset. Is the only correction to take it to a dealer OR should I return it because it may be a lemon. Have to say, the box was in rough shape and the extension table is missing a clip. Any thoughts that I may have a returned machine which is possibly still defective?

If you're getting these problems almost right out of the box, I would definitely return it.
