Can I Add A Riser To The Post?

I was wondering if anyone has successfully added a riser to the post to raise the handlebars on the Schwinn Volare 1200? I love my bike but realized I am hunched an awful lot when riding. So it's either going to be see if I can add a riser to the post (and I don't see how but thought I would ask), take it to the bike shop to see if they can add one, or get a new bike. Thought I would start here since it requires less work on my part. Thanks! ;-)
