Steering Wheel Controls On 2004 9-5 Aero Sedan

I have a new (to me) 2004 9-5 Aero sedan, and I love it! But I can't figure out the purpose of 2 controls, one on either side of the steering wheel thst look like little "wings". They are located just behind, & on the outside of/below, the sound system controls. The symbol looks like a little "gear", with s minus on the left one and a + on the right one. I can't find them referenced in the manual, and they have no obvious impact on anything. Does anyone know what they are for? Thanks!
