What's The Polarity On The Power Supply Center Pin Whp141.

I have two identical WHP 141 sets, both now work with two identical power adapters that may or may not be originals. The center pin of these power supplies is negative as indicated on them and I verified* the polarity with an electronic voltmeter. Also on one set, there was a lose connection where the power line connects through the case such that it would come on and go off when the wire was wiggled. I took it apart and soldered the connection and now it works well.
* Ahh, but here is an anomaly: Both power adapters are labeled:
MODEL: UD-1201B
INPUT: 120V AC 60 Hz 7W OUTPUT: 12V DC 150 mA
However, upon verifying the polarity of the voltage output on both read 18.5 V. To check my voltmeter I connected eight 1.5 v batteries in series and the voltmeter read, as expected, about 12.5 V.
Then I checked to see if there was an AC voltage component, there was: 39 V, but only when the center pin was connected to the voltmeter COM; i.e. negative black, reversing the leads showed zero AC. Reversing the voltmeter leads when on DC setting, as expected, just changed the sign of the 18.5 volts to negative 18.5 V.
In summary, both sets now function well with the center pin of the power supply being negative.
