Frustrated! Rca Rt2911 Hookup

I have a coaxial cable coming in so I need to hook to a VCR first then on to the receiver or TV (don't know which). Regardless of the combinations I try, I can't seem to get it right. I have a new E552VLE Vizio tv with optical, coax, HDMI, and RCA hookups available. Any help would be appreciated.
