The case needs to be gently pulled apart, but there is a glued plastic pin inside near the headphone jack that makes it rather difficult to get apart without braking the plastic pin connection. I took a X-acto knife and carefully pressed the blade into the seam of the mp3 player case starting at the top of the player on the back where the black/silver plastic case halves snap together, press between the 2 in the groove carefully and slowly so you don't slip off and cut yourself or damage the unit. When pressing into the groove with the knife edge slightly turning the knife so as to separate the case, working down both sides, carfully pulling the case apart watch inside down where the headphone jack is located, you may have to break the plastic pin, mine evenually came apart and I was able to access the jack contacts that came unsoldered from the pcb (printed circuit board). I have a fine tip adjustable soldering system that I can adjust to a low temp as to not damage the circuit. If you find this something you do not want to attemp yourself and do not know of anyone to do it for you, you can either send it to an authorized RCA reapir center and wait for an unknown time of turnaround or send it to me to fix for $25 plus shipping. If you are careful and have the right tools, you can do it yourself if you are experienced in basic electronics. You need to be very careful not to overheat the solder connections as it could damage the player if you apply too much heat and too much solder, it only needs a very small amount and I re-flowed solder on 3 connections, one was obviously broke from a lot of plugging in headphones etc. but I went ahead and re-flowed all 3 connections and it is as good as new! Also when re-assembling the case, it is not really neccessary to re-glue the pin, if it is not broke off completely, the case can keep together without that pin, you could run a small bead of silicone if you feel the need, as it would be easy enough to take apart later if needed, but I don't bother, the case seems to hold together well enough without it.:^) All the best!
