Recall Vin Issue
Hi!I am an owner of the Pontiac g6 09. The steering column of this car has the exact same issue as the ones being recalled (the Torque sensor / EPS). However, my VIN number was not recalled. I can buy the part myself, but the entire steering column needs to come out to repair the issue. The primary question is this: will Pontiac (or any Chevy dealership) work with me in any way for labor costs? Seeing as this is a widely known and recalled issue, it doesn't seem right that my car should be passed on simply because the VIN was excluded.

If your car falls under this than there is no issue for VIN number On May 14, 2014, Pontiac recalled 2,440,524 Pontiac G6. General motors llc (gm) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 chevrolet malibu vehicles manufactured may 16, 2003, through october 11, 2012, 2004-2007 malibu maxx vehicles manufactured june 25, 2003, through april 5, 2007, 2005-2010 pontiac g6 vehicles manufactured may 26, 2004, through january 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 saturn aura vehicles manufactured april 24, 2006, through may 26, 2009. in the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the body control module (bcm) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the brake apply sensor (bas) circuit. these fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'park' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.

We're an independent help site and (as I'm sure you realize) we have no power to force Pontiac to make free repairs. For Pontiac, use the contact information at https://www.contacthelp.com/pontiac/customer-service. If you wish to complain to the federal agency that issues such recalls, go to https://www.recalls.gov/nhtsa.html.
