Party/private Chat

The label on the box said for Xbox360. Yet these headphones dont even register as a headset when i switch the setting to Voice: Headset. No sound from the party comes out of anywhere. I can hear the game volume bright and clear, but i cant hear my friends. I can switch it to speaker, but then i have to hear both the game sound, and my party very very dimly in the background. The colume dial on the left side, the one labeled for the party volume, does nothing at all. I guess my question is, how do i get the headphones so they 1, let me hear my party and adjust its volume with the designated dial, and 2, have it respond to the Xbox setting that it should.
