Can You Tell Me If This Tv Requires A Converter Box? Model# 34pw850h37f

I am trying to install the PHILIPS indoor antenna to this TV, & can not get a picture. I downloaded the manual, which was very easy to follow. The only issue maybe was that the remote I got with this TV does not match exactly to one shown in manual. (It is a PHILIPS remote). Maybe I do not have TV set on TV MODE only.....when I went through the MENU, I made sure it was set up for ANTENNA. When I use remote for CH+ or CH-, it wants to run me thru different CH Modes like AC, VC1,2,3,4 etc??? When I enter a CH manually on the remote, it also is black/white dots. All my other TV's get great reception using indoor antennas only. (They are newer models though...no converter box necessary) This TV was made in 2003, so thought I'd ask your thoughts first. The only thing I can suggest is to pay particular attention to the antenna hookup instructions on page 6. The other thing is that all ota signals went digital several years ago & I can't find any info stating whether your unit has a digital tuner or not. My guess is that it doesn't. You may have to spring for a ntsc tuner, like this one.

Yes, this TV has only an NTSC tuner, to get digital (ATSC) channels you must have some kind of ATSC tuner , satellite receiver or cable box that outputs component video (for HD ) or NTSC or composite for SD pictures. I just bought an HDMI to component adapter from Japan that was only $29 (most others are $100+, going to try to resurrect the BEAUTIFUL picture this direct view CRT HDTV has.
