Freehand Quilting

Just put on the foot needed to freehand quilt on my pfaff 1540, dropped the pressure foot, put stitch width at 0, put the material does not move freely, so I am pulling on the quilt piece to move. Cannot find anywhere on the machine to release pressure on the foot.?? Please help. Unsure what else it could be.
