Stuck Position..needle Goes Up/down In Same Stuck Position

I've been sewing like crazy, flannels and cordoroy, so lots of lint but I blow it out regularly. Yesterday all of a sudden the machine got stuck in reverse and refused to sew forward. I trned the machine off, then on, several times, to no avail. I finished the quilt I was working on by pulling the quilt backwards through the machine. Then it wouldn't sew forwards or backward. I have removed the needleplate and blown out any lint but there was very little there. This machine is only 5 years old. Help!
