Pressure Foot Rising With The Upstroke Of The Needle.

I'm probably asking too much of this machine, but I'm attempting to replace the zipper in a lightweight nylon parka shell. I'm using a 100 size needle with nylon e thread. When I sew through 7 or 8 layers it sews great, when I add the zipper and a few more layers the pressure foot rises with the needle, the thread balls up before it passes through the eye, and the material quits advancing. Increasing the stitch length helped, with the thread balling. Is there a way to increase the tension on the pressure foot like the old machines had. It used to be simply turning a thumb piece on the top. I removed the 4 screws and the tray, but I don't see any obvious way to increase the tension.

If the pressure foot on your sewing machine is rising with the upstroke of the needle, it is likely that the pressure foot lifter mechanism is not working properly. Here are a few things you can check and try:
  1. Check the pressure foot lifter lever: Make sure the pressure foot lifter lever is in the correct position. The lever should be down to engage the pressure foot and up to disengage it. If the lever is not in the correct position, adjust it and see if that fixes the problem.
  2. Check for obstructions: Look for any obstructions in the pressure foot lifter mechanism, such as thread or fabric, and remove them.
  3. Check the pressure foot lifter spring: Check the spring that controls the pressure foot lifter. Make sure it is properly attached and functioning correctly. If the spring is broken or damaged, it may need to be replaced.
  4. Lubricate the pressure foot lifter: Apply a small amount of lubricant to the pressure foot lifter mechanism to help it move smoothly.
  5. Consult the manual: Consult your sewing machine's manual for troubleshooting tips and instructions specific to your machine.

If none of these steps solve the problem, it may be a more serious issue with the pressure foot lifter mechanism or another part of the machine, and you may need to take it to a professional technician for repair.
