What Channels For Dvd

I have a quasar DVr and they tell me Panasonic handles them now. I have direct tv and can my machine to their remote but cannot get a picture. I can turn it on and off with the remote but do not know what channel or code I need. DirecTv said I should contact you. Can you help please,
