How Do You Know When Your Thermstat Getting Bad

If the thermostat won't open at the correct temperature or it is clogged with sediment, the car will start to overheat. The best test is to turn the heat to the highest setting and warm up the car. If the thermostat doesn't open, you won't have any heat coming from your heater vents, but the temperature gauge will rise to the halfway point or higher.

If the thermostat opens too early (or never closes at all), the car will run poorly for the first few miles and your temperature gauge will be slow to rise to it's normal operating temperature reading.
