Audio Dimmer

I have installed an after market multimedia unit (double DIN) and when the lights are activated the unit goes into a blank screen mode (caused by the dimmer capability) and can not be operated until the lights are powered off. How can I bypass the dimmer capability/function so that the head unit functions correctly.
