so i'm trying to find out why my netgear wireless modem won't let my xbox get online an suggestions

As long as the xbox is configured to use the proper security mode and pass-phrase for the netgear it should connect. You might log into the netgear management interface and see if the xbox is even being seen. The wifi on the xbox may not be ebnabled.
