I am assuming that when you say external speaker you mean the speaker phone.
When you Make or Receive a phone call:
You will see the words "Speaker On" in the lower right corner of the display screen.
Select the button that is located in the upper right hand corner of your cell phones keypad. ( It looks like a dot or period)
This will turn on the speaker phone.
To turn off the speaker phone just click the button again.
