Wired Headset

Does the 2.5mm jack work for a wired headset? I tried a nokia wired headset but it did not work. Do I need one with a button on the headset to get it to work? Is there a make or modle best suited for this?

No almost all headset have a 3.5mm jack for headphones. You indicated that it's a 2.5mm. Buy a 2.5mm to 3.5mm converter jack so you can use it with regular headphones. Here is an amazon link:
