Stray Iexplorer.exe Processes

For some reason, I see about five "iexplore.exe" processes in my task manager, even if I am not currently running Internet Explorer. When I try to end them, they quickly regenerate. What could be the cause of this? All of the file locations point to the correct IE folder.
