Metropcs's stance on tethering is so convoluted their web site will literally yes and no on the same page. They dont offer any tethering plans nor support tethering although they happily use wificapabilities and even hotspotting to sell phones.  I m connected thru an app called PDANET+. You can find it in google play but you need the desktop version installed to your pc to be able to access the settings that hides the tether usage. It includes foxfi which gives you hotspotting abilities even on phones that they say can't. Ironically foxfi broke the hotspotting ability that already existed on my coolpad although it worked great on the optimus m that the coolpad replaced.

Install the correct drivers for your phone to your computer before you get started on the install.

Get the appropriate destop version for whatever type of phone you are using and install. Before you attempt the connection, rightclick the icon in the tooltray and click settings. Leave google dns unchecked. (I dont know if thats a metro thing or jus me but i cant connect using it). and choose level I under hide tether usage. If you dont hide the tethering  you get redirected to a page saying tethering isn't allowed.

you can use the "mobile Hot Spot" on your cell to connect your computer to the internet.  You must have that option activated and I think it's five bucks a month to use.  I have used it in the past in a pinch when I had no other options and it works pretty well on the 4G models.  Hope that helped.
