What Would Happen If Activate A Metro Phone With Sprint Number ?

My Sprint contract ends in the 16th , what would happen if I activate a metro pcs phone with the same number of my sprint phone in the 14th ? I was told by a metro worker that if I want to keep the same number I have to go activate the metro 2 days before the sprint contract ends, but why is that? I mean if the new metro starts working with the same number the sprint cell is not gonna work anymore so does that mean Im cancelling the contract ? cuz its 2 days before the 16? Is sprint going to take it as cancellation when they see Im using the number on metro pcs before my contract ends?

Hello Avatar1584,

the MetroPCS Representative is correct, the phone number must be  an "active" one at the time a Wireless Number Portability (WNP) request is made.  For more information regarding MetroPCS's WNP offer please click on the following link:

MetroPCS Number Portability FAQ

Now, as for fa Sprint Contract: The billing cycle Sprint uses for it's customers is charged at the beginning of every billing cycle - not at the end. ie: You are charged in advance each month your contract remains active.

Therefore, the date you change over to MetroPCS is irrelevant to sprint as long as this change occurs during the last billing month (Cycle) on your contract.

You can connect your device tomorrow or wait til the 12th, because this has no effect on your current Sprint Contract, AS LONG AS SPRINT ALREADY CHARGED YOU FOR THE LAST BILLING MONTH ON YOUR CONTRACT.

Therefore, Sprint already billed you in the beginning of this last month of your contract end date.  Thus, you have fulfilled your Sprint contract obligation 100%.

Make Sense?

HOWEVER, I highly recommend you speak with a Sprint Representative to confirm you have been billed for the last month of your contract and an early termination fee will not be charged.

Please note: This response is longer than most because I feel it is important you understand Sprint's billing cycles during the contract period.

Hope this helps you
