Check Charging System

Within the last few days the "check charging system" indictor has  come on. I have a 2006, recently purchased from the dealer and was told that the battery is new. The car is still working properly but what is causing this indication?

Usually the battery light/check charging system light comes on due to insufficient voltage being registered to the computer. You would be able to check this with a multi meter/volt meter. Check to see voltage level at the battery. The voltage should typically be between 13.8 - 14.1 volts while the vehicle is running. If it is not between these readings, I would first check the connections on the battery, alternator and starter. If the connections look good it will most likely be the alternator. Most auto parts stores will test this for you at no charge.
