06 Mercury Mariner. Help!

1. Sometimes when the car is running the fan will make a sound that I can only describe as a giant cricket. How do I make it stop?2. When the car is idling it runs great great. as soon as your foot touches the gas pedal it makes a ticking sound. The ticking never increases in speed but slightly in pitch if you accelerate.
