A very good way to judge the quality of your coolant is to take off the radiator cap and look at it. Make sure the car is cool before removing it. Here's what to look for:
1) Check the underside of the radiator cap. If it looks grungy or is full of gunk, you need to flush out your cooling system.
2) Does the coolant look clean? Any sign of sediment floating on the top of the coolant means you need a coolant flush.
3) Drain off some of the coolant and look at the top of the radiator fins inside the radiator. If there is any sediment buildup (looks crusty), then it's probably a good idea to flush out the old coolant and put in new coolant.
