Memorex M/n Mp3851blk+ Antenna Replacement

Hello, My hyperactive/anger issues Nephew, decided that he would pull-out, then take apart - section-by-section, the antenna to the above cited Memorex "Boombox". My Nephew battles with ADHA/ODD/SAD, so the little guy cannot always "control his anger." After removing the eight (8) Phillips screws, from the bottom of this unit, in order to gain access to the "antenna base", so as to replace the antenna with the "nearest matched" antenna, purchased from a local Radio Shack, I am finding "resistance" in seperating the TOP of this unit, from the bottom. I do not want to break anything, in my efforts to replace this antenna. Moreover, this website comes back with a zero (0), when it comes to an available "Owner's Manual". Does ANYONE have an answer and/or URL, which would at least give me a schematic of this model? I have been "taking apart/putting back together", hundreds of things, since I was a teen - some 40 years ago, but it was "humans" that were broke, not "devices". I have help rebuild two, 8-cylinder engines, in rebuilding same; sucessfully rebuilding dozens of electronic devices, through the years. I am battling Cancer - a rather aggressive form. Insurance does NOT cover all the "additional costs" (i.e. gasoline, lodging, food, auto insurance, et cetera", otherwise, I would simply have a repair shop fix this seemingly simple problem. I have all the parts need to replace the antenna, inspite of the fact that the RS replacement antenna, is some 2" longer (antenna compacted), than the original. The issue of "mating" this replacement, when it comes to securing the "base" of the antenna, with the antenna base, which is located in the uppper-right-hand-corner, of this Memorex "Boombox; suggested/bought a 1/16thCotter pin, which (snugly) slides through the "holes" that are in both the antenna's/Boombox's "base". I gleaned additional information, which suggests that the semi-circular "head" of this tiny Cotter Pin, will "clear" anything adjacent to this unit's antenna base. IF anyone could reply, with their help, WE would be grateful, as this Boombox (American-made, in Weston, Florida!), is a present the Nephew received from one in our family, who lives on a "fixed income", which makes this Boombox, a very "special present" (indeed) to him. Respectfully, D. Rucks

Hi. I have one of those and need to replace the antenna also. But I love to take things apart to see how they work. So, here's what I have found. There was $50,000K dollars stashed in it. Just joking.

2 options. don't take the bottom off. Just replace the antenna at the top. There is a screw on the swivel part of the antenna. Leave the base (that's attached inside) and just remove the telescope part. Remove the new telescope part and attach to the old base.

Option 2, if you really want to take it apart like I did, unscrew the 50+ screws. Dont forget about the screw in the battery compartment. Once ALL of them are removed, it slides out from the front to the back. Once the sides and the back are lifted slightly,, shimmy it it left and right and give it a little muscle. My player was rather sticky or glued. But I got it off.

Hope this helps.

Best of luck with your health.
