Cd Lid/cover Not Staying Closed

The lid on my Memorex CD Boombox MP3851 BLK will not stay closed. There appears to be nothing wrong with the latch mechanism. It still plays CD's just fine if I tape the lid closed. All I did was pack it back in its box for moving. It was working fine before that. What's wrong with it?
